I wonder if this could be scaled to 6 yards with a penalty,  if necessary, for the shorter distance entry?

Just a thought.

Kind regards,

It would possible to use the UBC 6 yd targets as these are basically scaled down 10M targets.

Interestingly, comparing the scores for the MPL and the UBC comp shows that the 6 yd scores are significantly higher. This would seem to indicate that shooting the smaller targets at a shorter range is significantly easier.

I am not at all sure that we could find a way to do this, but if we did, then it would need to be based on the NSRA 6 Yard Air Pistol target "AIR 8" as this is universally available to everyone.

This target should give the same image at 6yards as the NSRA ( and similar approved) 10 metre target that is ued in the MPL.

Maybe we could make a 6 yard postal version of the MPL based on the above specified target?

I think an alternative 6 yard postal category is a better idea than making a further rule variation of the existing 10m comp.

It could also be an individual comp without the need to form a team.

Kind regards,

I agree. Individual entry would pull in more people.

But there is no reason why it couldn't be both. A fairly simple spreadsheet could group the results as individuals and as teams.

I found downloadable Air 8 targets here: - http://www.tomgirling.co.uk/hobby/airgunning.php

I'm going to try these over 6 yards using the MPL rules where applicable.

I tried the Air 8 targets with a HW45 Silver Star .177. Five shots each onto four targets over 6 yards and scored 156/200. I'll try again later with my Gamo Compact.

I think this is a perfectly feasible email comp, though the scores are likely to be higher than the real MPL

If anyone else is interested in "beta testing" the concept, the target can be downloaded from http://www.tomgirling.co.uk/hobby/targe ... (Air8).pdf

I expect so too.

It could either be a separate comp or carry a points deduction.

Bob seems to have sussed weightings, etc, for the main comp,  so I am sure he'll come up with something for a postal.

....sorry - I forgot about this.

Lets see if there is still any interest for a 6 yard individual MPL postal competition.

It may even be a better option than the bench-rest 6 yard pistol comp as this seems to have lost its momentum?

At 6 yards I suggest all pistols score up in the regular way, and .177 only - this keeps it simple.

Any thoughts?

Well I am up for it as I am now looking for both 6yd and 10m email comps that I understand. I am going to post a seperate thread regarding the 10m comp idea in a minute but I am definately up for a 6yd email comp.
What is the choice of pistol going to be?
