best way to store spring air pistol

I was wondering what the best way to store my spring air pistol was, pre war Diana model 5. after reading posts about the breech seal becoming flattened out, I was thinking it might be best to break the barrel which would take the pressure off the seal as compared to storing with the barrel in the normal firing position. the barrel breaks slightly before it reaches the point of pressure to actually cock it and that's the point I was thinking of.
any thoughts or reasons as to why this would be bad or what a better way might be.

thanks

There is a position, with most break barrels, where you can open the beach without actually cocking the gun and there is no reason why you can't do this.

I always give my guns a wipe down with a silicone cloth when I've used them. You do have to ensure that silicone does not get onto bearing surfaces. Many others prefer an oiled cloth.

Make sure the guns aren't stored in gun sleeves, as rust will often result.

Kind regards,

Phil

thanks Phil, good advice and that is basically the position I was talking about. but i'm not sure what you mean by the "bins", also, why do you not want to get the silicone on any bearing surface, does it just not hold up.

I should read before posting, as my predictive text seems to swap my words for its own random choices.

Bins = guns. Original post has now been corrected.

Silicone isn't a lubricant, and can force out oil from where it should be. Mating metal surfaces should be lightly oiled.

Kind regards,

Phil

rickybob,

I have stored all my break-barrel airguns with the barrel slightly broken.

I am still on the original barrel seal on my 1974 Diana (Original) 35 !

Have fun & a good weekend :)

Best regards

Russ
