Any pistol built more like a firearm than the Haenel 28R?

I just acquired Haenel 28R and have several other good quality pistols including a FWB 65. But the Haenel 28R feels and is machined just like a regular old blued firearm. Given its barrel doesn't break the repeater is even more firearm like. Is there any other that has this quality? I assume the Tell3 would but will probably never know.

IMO, most of the early air pistols were built like firearms - IE - using similar contruction methods, such as forged steel or cast iron frames, and all steel small parts (with the exception of the grip panels).

Then there is the Walther LP53, which was intended as a trainer for their Walther Olympia .22 RF pistol. The LP53 made use of alloy castings, but was still constructed to the highest standards and the fact that Walther had built at least two, single shot, prototype .22 RF pistols based upon the LP53 frame and barrel castings, would place it right in there with being "built like a firearm". The two rimfire pistol prototypes that Walther built using the LP53 castings were designated the SP53, and the SP54. The "SP" stood for "Sport Pistol". On the outside, these two guns looked virtually identical to the LP53, but internally, the appropriate changes were made to allow for firing the RF ammo, and then ejecting the spent cartridge. The SP54 also had a safety added. Pics can be seen in the book, Walther - A German Legend, by Manfred Kersten.

Baikal Makarov and Izhmash Yunker 4 AK74M, both made in the Izhmash factory in Russia with the same parts as their cartridge cousins.

The Cybergun AK47 is supposed to use some Chinese Type 56 parts, too.

The old Webleys have an authentic firearm feel to them.

Hi,
As Leonardj says, most of the earlier air pistols were made to 'Firearm' standards before cheaper manufacturing processes became available.
I know you hanker after a Tell 3, but apart from being much rarer, I wouldn't rate it higher than pistols such as the Haenal 28/28R or similar pistols from that era.

Brian

Almost missed this one!The only air pistol I've seen that converted easily and 'worked' as a firearm was a Polish Lucznik. The barrel was bored out to .22-and it had been shortened. The breech was fitted with a sliding steel locking bar. A floating firing pin had been fitted to the air transfer port. All done by an air force armourer. But VERY dangerous,in my opinion.Maybe the short barrel saved the 'inventor' from losing his hand or worse....
