Yeah have a go i just use a lump of foam or a bean bag when i've shot the comp, i will be shooting mine tonight @ the bell target club in the pistol section, its not worth gassing up a co2 pistol cos its just 2 rounds of 6 shots, atb, M.JonW:2469 wrote:Been plinking with mine at the weekend and really felt good to be getting some lead through it after a winter of no action. Really must get the pistol rest finished and submit a score this month!!
Gamo Compacts ?
Hi, new to the forum, so hello. I've got a Compact that I picked up a few weeks ago in excellent condition. It has the transparent perspex sear cover and an O-ring seal on the piston, plus a sweet trigger. So I'm guessing it's an older one. Any way of working out a rough date of manufacture for it?
I've also got a .22 Tempest that I've had from new and a .22 Tau 7 that I picked up last year. Really enjoying 10m freestanding and longer range plinking.
Cheers, Mick

Hello Mick,
And welcome to the forum.
I don't think it is possible to date these, as the serial numbers don't appear to be made up with any month/year letters included.
I got mine shortly after their release in the late 1980s.
They just need a drop of Pellgun oil in the cylinder every couple of hundred shots to keep them operating at their best.
Kind regards,
Phil

Pistols are easier to keep than rifles, and I do think there is a little more skill in shooting such, especially with open sights.

My Compact was bought in the late eighties like a few of us on here. It wowed me with the posh target wooden grips and was my second pneumatic pistol after the Crosman 1322. I really liked the single pump over the multi and soon the Crosman was left in the cupboard for shoots.
It was this gun that got me back into shooting last year. Couple of hiccups with the old thing. Sometimes it won't retain air in the cylinder and you have to recharge once or twice. I keep it in the house and shoot in the garage so I don't think it's the cold affecting it. My local RFD had a look and re oiled it but I reckon it needs a new set of seals and a service after all this time.
A great gun, It's accuracy even makes me look good sometimes. But only sometimes!

Re: Gamo Compacts ?
Well got a second Compact again now, tweaked the trigger, and set it up for 6yd bell target (poa = poi), and my other Compact which is certainly about 25 years old is set for 6yds paper target, my other pistols are mainly used for 10 mtrs. the Compact triggers feel almost identical so it easy to swap over @ the club, and shoot both paper & bell targets, atb, M.

Re: Gamo Compacts ?
My Compact did this after sitting for a while.
Towards the front of the air cylinder, usually underneath, there is a small hole.
Open the gun up enough to access it, but not enough to cock it . Put a couple of drops of Pellgun oil in, and then open and close a few times, again without cocking the gun.
You may have to repeat this a few times at first.
This should help, and it is also worth repeating every couple of hundred shots.
Kind regards,
Phil

Re: Gamo Compacts ?
I have now got both my Compacts set up for 6yd comp's, one for bell target with the sights set so that the poa is poi, and the other set for the standard 6 0'clock position for paper targets, having shot this now for a few weeks I am very happy with the smooth transition I get from paper target to bell shooting without having to change grip or hold, atb, M.
