Brocock Tandem Air Cartridge Revolvers
Hello,
I still shoot reproduction Muzzle Loading Revolvers following the 1995 breech loading pistol ban and acquired these Tandem Air Cartridge (TAC) Revolvers at the time to allow indoor use of similarly balanced pistols.
The cartridges are completely self contained and can be charged with hand pump or via a modified Lee "C" type reloading press attached to a diving cylinder for more efficient charging. Once loaded, the pistol can be fired as you would a live firearm with the hammer striking a small valve at the base of the cartridge that replaces the percussion cap on a live firearm.
Unfortunately, these pistols are now required to be recorded on a Section 1 Firearm Certificate (FAC) although strangely you can still use them in your back garden with the usual safety provisions. The only options open to owners following the 1995 legislation was to place them on FAC, have them destroyed or deactivated without compensation. They also have no future commercial value and cannot be sold or passed on to anybody else once I shuffle off this mortal coil.

Colt 1851 Navy (TAC)
Remington 1858 NMA (TAC)

Re: Brocock Tandem Air Cartridge Revolvers
I couldn't be bothered starting up my FAC again to keep me, so I handed me in.
I had a Model 52.
I later found out that a friend obtained an FAC to put his on, and I could have still kept me by "donating" it.
Kind regards,
Phil

So are you saying when the time comes that you visit that endless shooting range in the sky, the guns HAVE to be destroyed? Surely I have misunderstood?

Hi Steve,
I'm afraid you didn't misunderstand my post on the ownership of Tandem Air Cartridge guns.
Here is a link to one of the Guidance Documents released at the time.

Silly isn't it, especially as there must be thousands of unaccounted for pistols out there which weren't put on FAC, deactivated or handed in for destruction at the appropriate time. Fortunately, I already had an FAC so it was a no brainer for me.
I remember at the time my local police HQ argued with me that they were only banning Brocock revolvers and as mine were Italian replicas they would not be subject to the ban . So not for the first time I had to explain to them that the ban referred to any TAC guns even if not manufactured by Brocock.
You couldn't make it up.

Re: Brocock Tandem Air Cartridge Revolvers
Unbelievable we are governed by low I.Q. idiots, and I thought being a chimp that my I.Q. was poor; what’s that old saying “there is always somebody thicker than you”. Over time when the thousands of villages in the UK expanded into towns and cities, the village idiots had to go somewhere, but who would have thought they would all become Politicians.

Re: Brocock Tandem Air Cartridge Revolvers
The subject of TAC's comes up every now and then on most forums - often with pictures of the various models that used to be available. Whenever I read them I feel so depressed about what we let our politicians do to us in this country
Re: Brocock Tandem Air Cartridge Revolvers
Its the pistols themselves that are so superior to anything we can get hold of today. The Tac system sounds to have been a bit of a pain regarding recharging.
If we could have CO2 loaded into pistols of that quality, I for one would be a very happy person, irrespective of the cost.

Charging the TACs is not all that much of a pain provided you use the adapted reloading press and an air cylinder. I can usually charge a batch of 50 cartridges in about 15-20 mins which is enough for a leisurely evenings shooting. I recall the TACs were quite expensive back then but cheaper if bought in bulk so I acquired 50 cartridges and a full servicing kit.The italian revolver replicas were specially commissioned by Brocock and consequently would have been made to firearm standards unlike the other TAC revolvers marketed by Brocock at the time.

Re: Brocock Tandem Air Cartridge Revolvers
My Brocock Orion revolver was the best air pistol I have ever owned.
I gave it to my RFD before the ban came in.
Saw no point in having a silly licence.
I never quite saw the connection between my pistol and the Mac 10 machine
pistol that was used in the shooting that led to the Brocock ban.
But then I am not as clever as those who govern us.

Re: Brocock Tandem Air Cartridge Revolvers
I had the "Specialist" model and handed it in. I was gutted, but could not be ar$ed with the fac palava at the time.
This was an excellent format with really nice guns to boot.

They were banned because some criminal cretins were adapting .38 cartridges to take a .22 rimfire and using in these guns. As usual, the Government "forgot" to say that most of these converted guns blew up and only damaged the user.....
