It does seem a worthy investment. I'll have to have s go with one.

Diopter sights aren't that expensive either.

The Air Arms MPR seems a good rifle to consider for s PCP version.

Kind regards,

My biggest problem is maintaining concentration (something i've always suffered with)
when i lose concentration i get punished with fliers till i get my act together again. I realise being nearer to seventy than sixty its a bit late to start a new sport, but hope to start ringing that bell before i boot the proverbrial Bucket, M.    :)
Further practice again today it appears unlikely that i will ever return to tenring hammering unsupported with a pistol :(  my knackered shoulder just cant take it, however i am starting to notice that rifle with much of the weight supported by my left arm & hip is ok for 6-8 shots before problems arise with holding & maintaining a sight picture for release, thats enough @ a time for bell target & hope fully this will improve with time so feeling a little more positive, & will switch pistol to mostly Benchrest, M. :)

Taking it slowly, and some stamina training, should help.

Benchrest pistol should certainly be a help, as you can use whatever set up you u cind comfortable.

My left arm is improving, but it's still a long way off being back to normal.

Kind regards,

In the last month i've continued with my practice i've found that shorter sessions (half hour twice daily) works best for me with fitness + ageing to deal with, and my rifle is improving (not as quick as i'd like) i'm impatient as always   although ive got the walther now i am concentrating on the izzy @ the moment as i like the challenge of bell ringing with the springer. Much to my surprise i have again found a way to shoot pistol resonably well, whilst setting up one of my compacts for the benchrest comp i changed the distribution of the add on weights i use, + re tweaked the trigger, lighter & smoother. I have since found that this pistol i can shoot fairly well freehand  :)  so i am going to try this thurs when i go to the bell target club to see how it goes.  :D  M.

Good news indeed.

I think the secret is to take things slowly and don't over do it.

I didn't do as well with my 6 yards comps, this weekend, as I set my target holder too low,  and I got the shakes.

It is much easier with a straight arm than shooting "downhill".

Bell target rifle practice, again.

Post by zunmik » Sun Feb 10, 2013 7:42 pm

Continuing with the "izzie" springer i have managed to refit the dioptre sights the original barrel weight forced me to use a red dot as the dioptre's had to be removed, but i've managed to fit the walther barrel weight (not needed on the walther) which allows me to refit the dioptre's, and has amazed me with a dramatic reduction in group size, also i am far more consistent with this new set up. Possibly the very large/heavy barrel weight i used before was a little to heavy, whatever its the biggest improvement i've made since returning to rifle shooting, M.  :)

Sounds like you are finally getting there.

Whilst the rear diopter sight is an easy fit, I have heard of people finding it difficult yo fit a front sight with removable reticules.

The front dioptre that comes with the "izzie" wraps round the barrel, and a screw goes into a predrilled hole in the barrel so luckily it only takes a minute or so to mount the foresight, (simples, phew.) M.

Are you fitting a foresight from another gun then?

I know the best reticules for Bell Target are the round "hole" type, with the hole just being slightly bigger than that of the target.

Thats exactly what i've got the "izzie" & the walther foresight dioptre's both have a range of elements so that you can choose the best one to suit the size, distance & your taste, just std as all dioptre's you just unscrew the cap use the size you require, i also have both metal & synthetic elements all are of course the round "hole" type i did'nt know there were other types other than the round hole ones, no point in having old style post elements in a dioptre!, atb, M.

Phil i forgot to say the "izzie" as std comes with a normal front dioptre that you can use any element you wish in it, but it does not fit onto std rails instead they use a cast metal design that goes round the barrel, and locates by means of a screw that locates into the barrel to ensure correct alignment, atb, M.

That's interesting, the ones I have seen pictures of have a sight a bit like the BSAs/Webleys, i.e. a fixed blade with a tunnel shroud.

Some UBC members have been asking how to change these over.

Kind regards,

I think thats the latest versions they also have a plastic receiver (yuk) mines all metal except for the stock in ideal world i would have had the even earlier version the (IZH60) the single shot one rather than the magazine 61 that i have, but their pretty rare, M.

"izzie" foresight diopter

Post by zunmik » Tue Feb 12, 2013 3:17 pm

Phil as promised pics of foresight (not best main camera flat battery) as you see it goes over & round the barrel. To get to the screw that locates on the barrel you undo the end cap as if changing sight elements then it is exposed, M.   (4 pics)

Very helpful pics.

It's a pity they don't fit the same sight to the later versions.

Perhaps somebody has come up with a workable fix already.
