Vintage Rifle

I quite fancy the idea of a vintage Bell Target rifle. Would anyone have any suggestions as to which would be a reasonably priced model and where to start looking for one?

I would say a BSA or Lincoln Jefferies would be in order, anything on >this< page should suffice.

Kind regards,

I occasionally visited Bisley on a Wednesday evening a few years back when they had their vintage night on the plinking range. I mainly loitered down one end with the Webley pistol folk but would sometimes wander among the rifle shooters (they had a bell target set up as I recall) - a friendly bunch who wouldn't think twice about letting you try one of their old guns. I remember shooting an ancient BSA with a peep sight fixed the stock, it looked super and was very nice to shoot too.

If you do find something and we start to shoot some old timers on a Thursday night at RMTC - I will bring my mint Webley Mk3 Supertarget as it would be a great excuse to exercise it.

......my mk3 is absolutely mint and still has the original cardboard box with all the paperwork it came with, but the outstanding part of the rifle as far as I am concerned is the remarkable "depth" of the blue finish - nothing modern or re-finished even comes close.

......... meanwhile I am mixing a thin paste with some Vim and oil to lap-in my new oversize loading tap to fit my Osprey Supertarget - its all I can find here at home today - but it is the recommended medium for lapping in lathe beds so I think it will be OK on a Webley :geek:

Maybe - perhaps it was on a very slow boat from China ?
