A bargain?

Thanks to all who gave advice about choosing a rifle. I'm now thinking the rifle may have found me! I have been working on a job this week and the guy who I have been working for told me he had a couple of air rifles after I had told him about my mk1 webley pistol. I Went on to tell him I had been looking for a rifle and he told me he was selling one of his as he now has a pcp and never uses the springer anymore. The gun is an air arms tx200 in .22 ,looks in almost mint condition with a Simmons 3-9x40 blazer scope fitted. The guy is ex army so I would assume its been looked after as well as it looks. He told me its about 20 years old but it certainly doesn't look it! He's letting me have it for £200 which I think is a pretty good price. Any thoughts and advice would be much appreciated, also if I buy it he said he only used air arms pellets and their online manual for the gun also advises this, would this be best practice. Thanks Ian

Destiny by the sounds of it.

It is usual for a manufacturer to recommend their own pellets, but you still be ok to use any.

As it happens the Air Arms Diabolo Field are an excellent pellet, as are JSB exact. To be honest, they are pretty much the same pellet.

For general plinking you can't really go wrong with RWS Superdomes.

Kind regards,

Phil

£200 is a very good price for this rifle. It will have the smaller, more desirable 25mm piston and in good condition I would expect to get your money back if you don't get on with it.
I bought one for my youngest a while back and as he is away at the moment I have it so I am using it for vermin. I have fitted a Weihrach silencer and it is surprisingly quiet. Anyone who tells you silencers do not work on springers has never fired one of these.
It should be threaded at the muzzle end and there will be a short insert you screw out, a simple adapter and you will be able to fit any silencer of your choice.

I really like it and although the scope on it isn't quite as good as the one on my HW77 it works just fine!

Thanks tank ,would like to fit a silencer as was plinking in the garden and it was pretty loud! Had a look and can't see any thread in the muzzle does this mean it could be older or newer than I have been told and therefore a different variant. Cheers Ian

Ahh! Turns out the Mk1 and Mk2 are not nessessarily threaded for a silencer. If there is no plastic plenum threaded into the end of the barrel you have to take a slightly different approach to a silencer.
I will talk to a colleague who fits these (AA TX200's) with both shrouds and silencers and get back to you with a few options.

The Mk1 tx200 was the only one without that annoying ratchet on the right hand side which locked the cocking lever, so that will help you identify which Mk it is, their was a built in silencer, but probably not up to modern std's, however for me its the finest Ft rifle I ever owned, and i rated it above the pcp's current @ that time, and I tried them all. Together with the crosman pellets the tx200 bought me right up through Ft grades, and helped me pick up a few trophies, if I was fit enough I would still shoot one now so you have a very fine rifle @ a good price well done, M. :handgestures-thumbupright:

Thanks to all, think it must be mk2 as it has a ratchet. Does anyone know a way to date it from the serial number?
