Marksman, Bulldog, White Lightning

Whilst at the Melbourne Marksmen Fayre on the 16th of June 2013, I spotted various pellets for some; some new, some old.

I have always had a fascination with packaging from the past, and a nostalgic feeling for the pellets I used to buy in times gone by.

These are often available on eBay, but always go for silly money, so I was quite pleased to snap some up at a bargain price

Marksman was the main pellet stocked by the local fishing shop, with the occasional box of Bulldogs. I recall the boxes I bought being in green though, not yellow.

I must admit to have not having heard of the White Lightning brand until recently.

Kind regards,

Phil

Hello Phil,

Well done. It's always pleasing to pick up nice little items like these without necessarily having to break the bank.

Like you, I find old pellet packaging, advertising literature etc very attractive especially the artwork and language used in bygone days. Paper pellet packaging is obviously far less durable than tins so finding examples in good condition is quite a challenge.

Below is a picture of an unopened pre-war package of Bulldog pellets which is my alltime favourite bit of patriotic and colourful pre-war commercial artwork

A superb box of pellets indeed.

I do find that these present themselves randomly, rather than turning up when looked for.

Hopefully I'll track some more down in the near future.

Kind regards,

Phil
