I was at a Vancouver Island gun show a couple of weekends ago and picked-up this full box of Quackenbush felted slugs. It was the first time I had ever seen anything Quackenbush on this island. I am curious to see what they look like, but the box is sealed so am loath to open it.

I do like old packaging.

I wonder if they are like the felt cleaning pellets.

Would be interesting to see.

Kind regards ,

Phil

No they were not a felt cleaning pellet. Here is some information I found on the Pyramid airgun website.

When H.M. Quackenbush brought out his popular line of airguns, he also made darts for them, and that was considered their best ammunition. Later, he brought out several different types of ammo for the same guns. Cat slugs were solid lead cylinders with felt glued to the tail. The felt acted like a modern diabolo waist and flared skirt, creating high drag that kept the slug on track. Later still, some H.M.Q. guns were made to fire modern diabolo pellets and lead balls. Once, again, they were never very fast because of their roots in a dart gun design

Excellent picture, never seen these before.

Interesting concept also. Not sure how well they would have performed though.

Kind regards,

Phil

Thank you for posting the photo Big Steve. I have wondered what they looked like, but didn't want to break the seal of the box I recently purchased.

I picked up a number of boxes of old pellets, in good completion and commoner with original contents, at the Melbourne Marksmen fayre last year.

They were very reasonably priced too. Whilst they are also available from arms fairs, etc, I do think they are more sensibly priced when bought from fellow shooters rather than dealers, and would recommend visiting the "local" fairs.

Kind regards,

Phil
