Is there a price differential between .177 & .22

Quite a group of Webleys are coming up at a local auction, these range from Mk1, Mk11 Target, to Seniors and Premiers
Unfortunately I can't attend, so postal bids are the way to go
I know having the box adds to the price but wondering if there is any differential due to calibre
Looking seriously at a post war Senior in the box (to go with my pre-war slant Senior) and a Premier B & E
Possible some low bids on non-boxed ones, just to acquire them, especially a .22 Pre-war Senior not far off my ones serial
Calibre, does it make a difference?

Hello Ray,

Possibly a small additional premium for .177 in the UK, but condition and rarity of the model are the biggest discriminator.

I personally prefer the .177 if the intention is to shoot the pistols rather than just keeping them as part of a static collection.

If it were my decision, I would go for the 'B' Series Premier rather than the later model provided condition wasn't an issue.

I must admit to a preference for the pre-war, straight grip Webley air pistols for appearance, but my favourite for shooting remains the pre-war slant grip Senior which provides the best compromise between apprearance and performance.

Thank you for that advice, one of the Premiers (the E ) is rated at 95% in the box while the B is lacking a box and is 90%
Definitely going hard for another pre-war one or two
Things to ponder, it quite tricky not seeing the goods and then having to out bid the opposition but I have had some great wins on other types of firearms (Lee Enfield's) using this auction site, and understand the code words
Though "barrel needs cleaning" can be really tricky!
Fortunately not applicable to air guns

Hi Ray,

The 'B' Series Premier was the last 'all steel' model with some parts on the later pistols being 'sintered' and consequently not as strong, particularly the thumb catch.

The Mk2 Target is a nice pistol. but still quite hard to cock unlike the Senior with i'ts additional cocking link to makes things a bit easier.

Good luck with your auction bids and don't forget to let us know how you get on.

Brian

I have not had official confirmation but the auction prices have been posted and knowing my maximum bids I seem to have scored 6 Webleys, 2 of which are rated at 95% finish, 3 in boxes
They are a Mk 1, Mk11, pre and post war Seniors, and two Premiums B ,E
It will be a couple of weeks before I have them in hand, pictures then!
Here is a taste from the Auction picture, first box then one on the other corner diagonally plus 4 and 6 o'clock

Hi Ray,

Congratulations. That little lot should keep you quiet for a while!

The Mk2 Target and the Pre-War 'Slant-Grip' Senior sound the most Interesting. Look forward to seeing some pictures when you get the chance. It would also be useful if you would be willing to share the Ser Nos of the Pre-War pistols.
