I spent a lot of time shooting air guns in my youth and I am getting back into it. I have just bought a Webley tempest pistol .22 (made in Birmingham not Turkey) and it is in very good condition. I also own a BSA air sporter rifle under lever .22 and a Checkeslovakian air pistol .177 not sure what company made it.

Hello and welcome,
New here myself, reading the posts there seems to be a wealth of information, and a friendly bunch of people.

Thanks for the welcome guys! My recent purchases are a Webley Tempest & Webley Hurricane pistols both in their original boxes and in excellent condition. I guess I just love the style of them. Can anyone tell me where I can locate the serial numbers on these guns I have looked over them so guess they must be concealed somewhere?

Hi as far as I am aware there are no serial numbers if made in the uk, so I have been told. But dont take my word mate. Hopes this helps you.

Hi,
The above is quite correct in that post-war Webley air pistols made in the UK do not carry Ser Nos.
The later 'Tempests' had a wider trigger blade, but apart from that, I'm not sure how you could establish even rough manufacturing dates for these later models. The Turkish 'Tempest's do in contrast carry Ser Nos and in my experience compare quite favourably with their classic 'Brummie' forbears.
As you may be aware The 'Typhoon' and 'Hurricane' were first introduced by Webley in the mid-1970s in response to stiff foreign competition for a more serious Target configured air pistol. Unfortunately, although well made, they were not a great success and Webley essential cut the front and back off the' Hurricane' to create the more traditionally compact 'Tempest' which was an immediate success.
Regards
Brian

I am sure somebody will point you in the right direction.
The regular arms fair at Preston might be a good place to visit, as you can examine what's on offer before making a decision.
Kind regards,
Phil
