little advice please

Post by kj68 » Fri Jun 06, 2014 2:10 pm

Hi guys I just received another Webley the other day through the post, its the Hurricane and its dated between 1975-1990. Its in great condition with no paint missing and shoots nice. What I would like to know is, is it wise to slightly oil a felt pellet and put it through the pistol just incase of collrcted dirt as I dont know how long its stood.

It is, but I wouldn't use just one.

It won't provide enough back pressure to stop the piston hitting the front of the cylinder.

I'd put a minimum of 4 through at once: dry, oil, dry, dry.

Kind regards,

Hi Phil,

I would definitely agree that a single felt wad does not provide sufficient back pressure. I always seat a pellet behind a single wad rather than shooting off two wads.

As you say, it's very important to remove any oil from the barrel prior to use to avoid erratic results.

Yes, I forget about the pellet behind technique.

This also helps with preserving the "leading" in the barrel.

I push a felt pellet through the Model 6M everytime I finish shooting it, and always after around 50 or 60 shots.

RobinC has put up some good posts about barrel cleaning in target orientated barrels in the tech section on here, well worth a read though aimed at rifles.
