Competitions

Post by pmh » Sun Nov 18, 2012 12:26 pm

I have stayed away from suggesting competitions on here,  as the UBC covers most variations a shooter could wish for,  and we don't exist to be in competition.

That said,  I am aware that some shooters would like to take part,  but injuries,  medical conditions,  etc,  make it difficult for them to take part in most on offer.

One solution may be to run a 6 yard benchrest pistol comp.

This comp isn't run elsewhere,  is at a distance we all have,  and takes the strain off the shooter.

Any thoughts?

Kind regards,

Phil

Yes,  I think you are right.

For the benchrest I was thinking of a target a bit like the 10m rifle, with one shot at each of the 5 small targets,  and two targets per sheet.

Kind regards,

Phil

Sounds OK

I would recommend

> Standard target that can be downloaded or sent as an attachment over the tinternet

> Simple and brief rules

> Scores emailed in - honor system no need for witnesses and posting them in etc

> Dedicated thread with sticky at top containing table with results

Simple and fun - even if just a few of us join in at first

:)

I cant see there being a problem with having a rifle catagory Mike - after all its just a bit of fun, not the olympics!

Simple is by far the best.

It is also the intention to make a competition that everybody can enter, and isn't already run somewhere else.

So, any suggestions are gratefully received.

Kind regards,

Phil

I printed some samples out.

The 50mm dia one looks well proportioned,  though I may settle on 55mm for the final size.

I was thinking an A4 landscape with two faces, each face having 5 targets set out in the traditional dice shape.

One shot at each target,  upward scoring.

If the very inner circle gets completely obliterated,  then this scores 10.5, otherwise it's 10 for the highest.

I suggest 10 shots,  one at each target,  scoring a maximum of 105.

As it is benchrest,  then I suggest one handed only.

I hope to post a sample target shortly,  for comment.

Anybody not having a suitable classic pistol,  then this is the perfect ex use and justification.

We do,  of course,  need to specify pistols.

I would like to see spring only, open sights, but am open to consensus of opinion.

Kind regards,

Phil

Sounds good Phil

Recoiling spring only? Something like an FWB65 would have a bit of an advantage over my Webley!

And what about caliber?  It would be nice if .22 were allowed!

Not that its of earth shattering importance of course - its about joining in and having a bit of fun

:)

All good points.

Might score more with a .22, as the bigger pellet has more chance of breaking a line.

Shall have to do some trials.

Kind regards,

Phil

To enable All to take part could it not be inward gauging for recoiling pistols & outward gauging for recoiless pistols, ?? M.

If it's about joining in and having a bit of fun I wouldn't start restricting who can join in. Just bung a target out there and let the guys shoot. Refinement can come with time.
