Hi, I found the forum via a reference in a post on the airgunbbs and thought I'd sign up and introduce myself. I've had air pistols from about age 7 and presently have a Webley mk1, a Tempest and an HW45 along with a couple of air rifles. As I don't get out to shoot the rifles as often as I would like I've decided to set up a short indoor range for some pistol practice. 6-7m is about the maximum I can safely do. I like the idea of postal competition as it will give me an incentive to introduce some discipline and try and improve my pretty poor pistol skills. One, possibly daft, question I have is where is the 6m measured from, target to muzzle or target to a line I would stand behind?
Cheers,
Tom.

Tom hi; and welcome to a very friendly and informative forum. Lots of like minded people just helping each other without the silliness found on some forums; just go ahead and enjoy.
As for your query regarding shooting distance layout; normally you take a vertical line from the front of the target to the floor, then measure your required distance along the floor and put a "toe - line" mark there, this is where your front foot can touch but not overlap. There are some bell target leagues that measure diagonally from the target centre to the toe line but this is not often found. Hope this is of some help.
Regards and again welcome

Re: Hi from Tom in Newbury
Thank you for the welcomes and the info on shooting line, I just need to sort out my back stop now. I've used a baking tray filled with plumbers mate in the past but this appears to have gone a bit runny since I last used it and is not wanting to stay put when vertical...

I use a piece of 3mm steel mounted on polystyrene.
Targets are fastened to this using small magnets.
Kind regards,
Phil

Cheers Phil, I'll give this a try, as I'm not worried about the noise, being indoors. I've just picked up three classic Webley pistols as a job lot to play with, a nicely blued Mk1, a tin grip Junior and a slant Bakelite grip Junior... Might just distract me from the brewing hobby.
