Yes, you are right, the snag is there is not enough of the barrel to re-crown it if I turned off the "modification" and this is the end of the barrel that is choked so if I cut it it and crowned it it would lose the choke. The work to repair such butchery should cost more than a replacement barrel,...

Interesting little things and as far as I know the only sabotted round ever made for airguns, I bought a few packs when someone down south found some old stock & auctioned it off.

An M3 Stainless Helicoil loktited in place would provide a permanent engineering fix where there are any concerns about wear or load capability of an M3 thread in alloy parts, it's common in industry to use helicoils in OEM parts to spread load & reduce wear,
