Meccano Magazine - Airgun Adverts

Post by pmh » Sun Nov 15, 2015 1:50 pm

During a recent visit to Southport, I picked up a couple of Meccano Magazines: one from May 1949, and one from May1952.

One of favourite things to do is look through the old adverts, particularly for toys.

The adverts are quite varies, and clearly aimed at the more adventurous child.

Not surprisingly, there are Airgun adverts: 1 in the May 1949 magazine, and 2 in the May 1952 magazine:-

Would anybody have any idea, or would like to hazard a guess, as to how much these would have been?

Kind regards,

Phil

Hi Phil,

I know from advertising literature issued during the early 1950's that the Junior air pistol sold for £3 6s and the Mk3 air rifle for £14. I don't have anything as specific for the Mk1 or Senior, but would estimate something like £6-£7 for the Mk1 and £8-£9 for the Senior.

Regards

Brian

I'll have two of everything please  I think you're probably on the money there Brian, (no pun intended). Based on current values, £8 in 1952 is around the equivalent of £225 in todays money!!
