Season 3 - Round 1

Season 3 of the bench rest air pistol competition starts in May 2014.

The rules and target can be found >here<

A new support rule has been added, but not updated in the rules yet.

In addition to the support method described in the current rules, pistols may be rested using the base of the pistol grip. The hand, arm, or elbow, however, must not touch the rest.

Good luck.

Results received so far:-

Hi Phil, and all Across the Pond,

Just sent you my first postal match target ever shot. It is a lot of fun, and I thank you for remembering me and inviting me to join in. For the record:

Richard Harris
Baton Rouge, LA, USA
Baikal/IZH original 46
Vogel 8.4g Match pellets

An excellent effort there from Richard, and it looks like he's got the technique right.

We'll have to tap him up for his secrets!

Kind regards,

Phil

Well, I turned down the sunny days to shoot on, as I had to get some jobs done, which left me with today.

I managed to find a break in the rain, but conditions were less than ideal.

I should have also shot some test targets, as I do have to aim off and thought I could remember the aim point. My results show I obviously couldn't!

Oh well, there is always next month to improve.

Kind regards,

Phil

Hi Phil I will agree its sometimes difficult to find time to shoot as we have other things we need to do and more than often the weather up scuttles things to. But we just have to make best of what we got.

Shot mine today, damn, that was hard work!!

I wrongly assumed it would be dead easy, I mean what could be simpler.... find a rest at target height.... rest the pistol on it and blast away.... easy....and if your not getting 10s from a solid rest there's sumat wrong with you........ oh, how wrong can a man be....

Aim points way lower than the black.... Finding the bench rest is altering the POI of the break barrel.... finding a point on the pistol that doesn't affect the barrel.... and then finding out you still have to maintain proper hold and trigger control while still being able to line/see the sights.....

I walked into my garage fully expecting to walk out with my tail wagging and a fist full of 10+'s..... Nope, not at all.... not quite a broken man, but a more humble one ner the less

Maybe next month....

Maybe when my averages improve, but not the one I just shot, that's way to embarrassing

Removed my original comment here - seems to have started something I didn't intend.

Hi Phil just a query do we need take show you our completed targets each month as evidence, as I dont mind but I thought this was based on trust. I get the impression that people dont think trust is enough.

I think humour is getting lost in the translation.

No need to show targets. It is based on trust, and there had been no need to question anybodys trust so far.

Kind regards,

Phil

Here you go Scrench, I decided to suck it up and reveal all.....

Image

I decided to score myself low on a couple as I couldn't decide if I'd broke the line or shot bang in between them.

My pistol has its sights set for 6 yards, so I need to aim at, or just below, the figure 6 to come anywhere near bull, not an easy task when your short sighted, so my aim point is more of a guess.

You can also notice quite evidently which targets are level to the pistol when I shoot and the ones I have to shoot down slightly to, I think next month I'll lift it so the centre targets are at muzzle height

This was a real eye opener for me, especially when you consider I'm currently at the top of the leader board of the current UBC 6 yard pistol postal

On the flip side it is a springer, all be it recoilless, and as everyone knows, or should do, springers and solid rests don't mix to well :naughty:

I don't know whether it could be construed to be cheating if I modified the targets with the aid of a fat black pen and a pair of compass' so I don't have to alter my sights for every discipline I enter with it..... Phil????
