Umarex CP88 & 586

Post by Ian » Sun Dec 02, 2012 5:46 pm

Whether my two Umarex CO2 pistols are classics may be open to debate though if they are not considered so now I have little doubt that they will be in the future

Image

These are both early models, having the superior gloss black finish and better build quality in comparison to current models

The CP88 is a replica of the high quality Walther P88 compact pistol. It was the first Umarex replica to be produced in the mid 90's and it is my favorite of the whole range. It feels very nicely balanced and has a nice trigger - accuracy is excellent for such a short barrel. When I shot IPAS I used one of these in preference to the more popular 586 and 1911's that were used on the circuit

Image

The 586 is a replica of the renowned Smith & Wesson 586 revolver and has an excellent reputation for accuracy and power (in comparison to the rest of the Umarex range that is) straight out of the box. Its a big, chunky pistol and capable of great results

I would say the shiny versions do count as classics.

I got mine back in 2003, so it's not far off 10 years old.

I had a 686 in .357 and would've got the CO2 version the same had silver mags been available.

My CP88 4" is nickel and looks very smart.

Kind regards,

I tend to associate classic with spring powered more than age, but I am generally open minded.

Guns I definitely don't care for are the mass produced CO2 replicas.

Classic ?

Post by zunmik » Mon Dec 03, 2012 6:23 pm

Whilst i get your point's re- classic pistols, what about bb pistols some of which have been around for a long time.  I do not currently own a bb pistol, but i used to own a Healthways bb spring powered pistol with the spring in the grip made in the 1960's i believe. M.

I have a Panther De-luxe,  but with a burgundy grip.

I do want one of the black grip ones.

I think many BB guns are classics, and some date back many decades.

Forgot to mention unusually the barrel runs the full length of the pistol & curves down into the butt where the spring is housed, M.

Im not that keen on BB guns but some of the ones Crosman produced in the 60's look very interesting. I was nearly tempted by a 600 like Plinkomatic recently.

None of the modern ones do anything for me, but some early examples are worthy of being added to a collection.

I just bought a 6" S&W 586 as it reminded me of my old .357 Model 19 that I was priveledged to own when they were legal.

I used to shoot target with it using once fired .38 +P cases donated by the police that were being trained on the Royal Marine range at Straight Point where we used to shoot.

They were recycled on my RCBS Rockchucker press with semi-wadcutters that I cast myself from my secret brew of type set and lead..

I also had a K framed 6" S&W in .22 rim fire so I could practice indoors in the Exmouth Smallbore Club range.

Those were the days - and now I will have a CO2 powered one to play with later this week!

Anyone got an 8" barrel to sell me ?

I would love to get hold of one to use on this pistol!
Feinwerkbau P40 Tricolour wanted.........still !

Bigjob on the UBC seems to buy up varying 586/686s, and always has bits and pieces for sale.

I'll pop him a pm to see what he has.

Kind regards,

The 8" barrels are getting harder to find. I put one up for sale at the beginning of the week and it went in minutes

I sent bigjob a pm, he more than likely bought it. :D

I don't think there are enough member on here yet to warrant a sales bit, but it might be wise putting up a wanted thread.

Kind regards,
