Holts Arms Auction is on at the end of this month (should have been the 23rd but something else is on in the country on that day apparently?).
Anyway, two pistols really interest me, firstly this one. I aspire to own it, but just financially not possible this year:

Then this one, I am interested in the statement that this is the 1st pattern. I own serial number 82 and it has the heart shaped cutout in the grip. I wonder what defines a "first series"?

graham.
I’m going off to go find myself. If I’m not back by the time I return, keep me here.

Hello Graham,
The first series Highest Possible had smooth horn grips, and a dovetailed rear sight, adjustable for windage only. This was eventually replaced around Ser No 200 by a curved sight blade that slid upwards in a similarly curved block to give vertical adjustment, the blade being retained by two small screws. The introduction of the chequered vulcanite grips appears to overlap with the first smooth horn plates within Ser No range 109-387 and after Ser No 387 only chequred grip models are known.
As you are probably already aware, the early pistols with the heart shaped cut out are the most sought after by collectors.

Regards

Brian
