Baikal IZH 46M

Post by eredel » Sun Apr 07, 2013 9:55 pm

Took delivery of a nice example of the above last week and I know it's not that old but I think it's already a classic due to the so-called "agricultural" nature of its build.
I had one of these a couple of years ago but due to the yearning for something else that caught my eye it had to go.
These really are an underated pistol, a heavy beast but very accurate in the right hands (not mine I might add). The grips need a little bit of sanding here and there to get comfortable but that's what they're designed for.
Shot it over the chrony with a variety of wadcutters and it's not fussy but if I remember correctly it quite liked the R10s at about 480 fps.
After I'd finished playing with it I picked up the Morini Short for the first time in months and realised why I love this pistol...so light compared to the Baikal and a dream to shoot.
Still love the basicness of the Izzy and the only pistol I might replace it with is that rare beast, the FWB 103.

Get some pictures up Eric! We would love to see it.

Im a Baikal fan as you can see from my signature and being as most of these east European pistols are pretty close to the traditional idea what an  air pistol is, I would certainly consider them 'classics'

As soon as I get a chance I'll do a photo session with my pistols...keep meaning to but always something else.
Now got loads of preparation work to do ahead of having a kitchen extension build in June.

Only shot one on a couple of occasions.

A joy to shoot, but tiring after a while, easy to get fingers trapped if loading technique slips.

I'd have one at the right price, but it would be a collection addition rather than a shooter.

I needed to try a few shorts and compacts to see how they differ from the full size variants.

Kind regards,

Phil

You can have a go with my LP2 Compact if you like Phil - they don't come much shorter or lighter than these!

Much appreciated.

I think it would be very worthwhile to experience the differences.

Kind regards,

This one is definitely on my wish list.
I'd see it as a shooter rather than a collectable but I agree it has something 'special' about it.

The only RFD I'm aware of who stocks this model is York Guns.
Does anyone know of any others?

I think Solware also lists them, but I haven't checked for a while.

Quite often a good 2nd hand bargain crops up.

I am also looking for a good industrial stapler - let me know who "Spare " is as I will contact them as well.

Thanks - Bob.

I know that Solware http://www.solware.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; stock them and they are really nice people to deal with too, in my personal experience.

Thanks GT - I may well be tempted to give them a call - but I have to make the effort to sell one of my LP53 pistols first! The almost mint example that I have in mind in its rare Walther fitted presentation case should go some way to softening the blow to my wallet!

A bad day for me, I meant to type "occasionally". Can't blame the spill chucker for that one! :D
