Target Recoiling Springer
I hear the only way to stop a HW45 smoking a little occasionally, especially after being left for a while is to strip and and re-lube it entirely with dry lubes like moly. This can make it unpleasant to shoot unless it has also been tuned and it also limits the power to 4.5 ft.lbs max.
The standard piston seal (possibly by design) always allows a little grease to pass.
Mine is an older model (1993) and has clearly been stripped and tuned at some point as the main pin has the unmistakable signs of being tapped out, and it is very smooth to shoot. It's also pretty close to full power at full cock, approaching 600fps with 7 grain wadcutters. It still does smoke a bit on the first few shots though.

Re: Target Recoiling Springer
You could also place a nicotine patch just behind the breach, which should help a little.
The other alternative would be to put it back in its box and to use a proper gun.
Kind regards,
Phil

ANY gun other than a "wobbly" is a proper gun, M.pmh wrote:You could also place a nicotine patch just behind the breach, which should help a little.

I don't really give guns a name.zooma wrote:Your HW 45 is called "Helgar" ?

But I thought Helga had a nice beefy Teutonic ring to it.

I agree - Helga sounds like a very appropriate name so stick with it !
Merry Christmas to you both
I like Phils idea of using a nicotine patch to help stop the smoking...........maybe a little Christmas present for Helga ?

Re: Target Recoiling Springer
Only just picked up this thread sorry I am a bit late in adding to the thread, but have to agree with zooma, you could try looking at the Original Mod 5 pistol which is the recoiling version of the Mod 6 [same grip variants]. Whilst it only has a pointed front sight blade you can soft solder a mall square tag on to the factory unit with an electrical soldering iron if you are careful enough not to melt any of the plastic parts. I did this around 1974 when I realised my customised W & S Senior was not competitive enough and a change of rules meant that my anatomical grips were too big, I wasn't going to chop up my efforts of grip making so I purchased a Mod 5; the pistol is still in use by another shooter with the addition still attached. bellringer
Re: Target Recoiling Springer
How about all of you guys entering your recoiling air pistols in the second series of the 6 yard MPL postal competition?
This is great fun to shoot at 6 yards - from home ( or anywhere you please) - only 6 cards to shoot each month for 6 months - score them yourself and email the results to us at [email protected] and we will do the rest.
Its only a tenner - have a go and see how your trusty old kicker gets on
You can have more than one entry if you like to see which of your trusted irons works the best for you over the 6 month period
