Ring my Bell

Post by Tank » Tue Jan 22, 2013 6:10 pm

I was reading with interest the Bell Target shooting thread, and followed the link to belltarget.com andspecifically this page here: http://www.belltarget.com/history.php
I downloaded the pdf of the book by Frank Spittle and I suggest that it is compulsory reading for any shooter. The words in "Ring my Bell" are as pertinent today as the day they were written. We "common folk" should really not be allowed guns, of any kind!

Anyhow, my interest was piqued when I read that the daughter of A J Parker continued the business after her father's death and that A J Parker was estranged from A G Parker, also a gunsmith and they ran two wholly seperate businesses but in close proximity to each other.
Then I discovered this:

Astonishing.

Sounds very interesting, I'll have to have a read.

Kind regards,

I got Ring my Bell for cristmas and I agree that it is a great read, the PDF avalible online is not the whole book.  There is another book mentioned in there about Parker sights, which later became Parker-Hale, but cant find it anywhere

I do know the PDF is not the whole book and it is on my "birthday Wish List".
Terrific story though and as I said earlier, some of the Politic is as pertinent today as it was back then.
I was in a bit of an informal competition just last week and I was doing great until someone reminded me it was my turn so I sprinted upstairs and picked the gun up to realise I was out of breath - cue totally disastrous set! Real schoolboy error
I have committed to buying a rifle just for this and I am very impressed with the way it shoots. I will be looking forward to more competitions and I am going to be getting my own bell target to be practicing!

You should make your own, it's much more rewarding.

A piece of steel, a bike bell, a 9mm hole, and away you go.

The holes are the tricky bit though. I have checked all over eBay, and the web, but cannot find any for sale!

Kind regards,

A very good idea actually. The cheaper stationary shops tend to have such things, or you could make your own.

I actually did the Benchrest Pistol Target in a free program called Inkscape.

It shouldn't take long to knock up a Bell Target Target in their.

Having a look around, the common size seems to be: 3/8" for the hole, then rings at 1", 2", 3", and 4"

Kind regards,
